Panamarenko Foundation, Umbilly B, 1987-2024

Umbilly B is the first edition released by the Panamarenko Foundation.
The screen print was conceived and produced in 1987 to be published as an edition of the then Ghent association Vrienden van het Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst (VMHK; Friends of the Museum of Contemporary Art). Panamarenko designed the edition but, for some unknown, non-artistic reason, ultimately disagreed with it, which bears the handwriting of Jan Hoet and the stamp of the museum at the time.

In this way, the screen print testifies to two personalities who together and to a large extent shaped the image of contemporary visual art of the last quarter of the 20th century. Today, after going unused for 37 years, the authentic screen prints are still being published by the Panamarenko Foundation.
